Question
I have 3 young Sago Cycads in my garden that having yellowing leaves. We are in a drought situation in Australia, but I am watering the plants every 3 days. They are in a raised bed with good drainage. What could be the cause?

Many Thanks

Answer
Dear Pam,

My Sago palms do that when exposed to extreme heat or intense sunlight, regardless of how much water I give them. Try giving them some afternoon shade if possible. Also, try fertilizing with some chelated iron. Most desert soils are alkaline and cause many plants to yellow. The iron may help in that regard.

Sincerely,

Greg
