Cactus/Sago cycad

Question
I have a cycad that is approximately 45 years old and in very good condition. It is about 8 feet high. It has two pups which I have allowed to mature so these look like branches on the trunk. The gardener recently cut the fronds off one of the large pups and I was heartsick. How long will it take for the fronds to grow again? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Dear Virginia,

I must appologize for the delay. Allexperts has been having server issues and I haven't been able to answer your question until today.

I have a few different cycads around my yard, and they only produce new leaves once a year, which is right now in my area. Hopefully the branch (pup) doesn't die from lack of photosynthesis. If it does, I would have a serious talk with the landscaper if you haven't already. I will keep my fingers crossed, good luck!

Sincerely,

Greg
