Cactus/Succulent is dying

Question
Hi Greg, I have a plant here that looks like it is dying. I must admit I bought it at a flower show and consequently I don't quite know what that plant is (shame) would you please identify it for me and give general advice? At first I thought I didn't water it enough  (about once or twice a week) but being now that it is winter it should not need so much water as it is a succulent, or maybe I am wrong.

When I first brought it home the leaves are mostly green now they are all drying up and the little white flowers on top are wilting. I really don't want to lose the plant as it is quite pretty but I am at a loss. before I ramble on any further, these are the pictures. Hope they are clear enough. It doesn't look half as bad on pictures though.

Thanks very much for your attention!

Answer
Dear Angie,

I don't know about the specific variety, but it looks like Sedum to me. There are a lot of different types, close to 400 I believe (check out this webpage).

As far as watering goes, as long as the soil is dry you can water. If you are watering once a week, that may be too much, especially in the winter when the plant is dormant. Try cutting back on the watering. You might also try a fertilizer (at 1/2 strength) or product called "Superthrive" to see if that helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
