Cactus/Yellowish Brown Barrel Cactus

Question
I have three Golden Barrel Cactus.  They are not as bright green as they have been in the past.  They are more of a yellowish green or very light green.  There are a few places that have turned a little brown.  So I don't know if they are sick (rotting) or sun burnt or what.  We have had a ton of rain 19 days straight (record setting).  I should have brought them in but it never rains like that here in Oklahoma.  They don't look bad but I want to stay on top of this.  Thanks

Answer
Paul,

Golden barrels are especially susceptible to heat and intense sun. The rain may have something to do with it, but just be sure not to water until the soil is completely dry. Keep an eye on them, and your nose as well. If you smell something funny, then rot has set in and unfortunately with barrel cactus, they can't be saved if rot is the problem. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
