Question
Hi Gregg, I have an enormous Aloe Cactus in my front garden, problem is it is outside the front door and on a wall, we would like to move it from that position a little further down into the garden, will it survive the move, how deep do the roots grow or do they grow sideways, I am sure we will need a crane.  It is very old.
Thanks
Linda

Answer
Dear Linda,

Aloe's generally don't get that large unless your talking about an Aloe Dichotoma (which grows like a tree) or something close to it. If that is the case, have a professional move it for you. Whether it's an Aloe, Agave, or Yucca, the roots are fairly similar and can be transplanted with success. The roots are sparse and radiate in all directions, but try to preserve as much as possible.

The trick is not to overwater the plant once you move it. As a matter of fact, let it sit out of the ground for a few days before replanting to allow the roots to heal. Pick up a product called "Superthrive" at your local nursery and use it per the directions. Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,

Greg
