Cactus/broken off cactus pice, transplant and try to save

Question
Hello  I have a cactus , type unknown, it is tall, single, thick straight up, green with pointers all around.  I've had it for years and it was over 12 inches tall and fell over and the top half broke off.  How can I try to save the piece?  Transplant into soil?  Please respond.  Thank you.

Answer
Marilyn,

Sorry in the delay in getting back to you. Yes, By now if you still have it, it can be replanted. As long as it was allowed to "heal". After the part that broke becomes scabbed over, it can be replanted. Water only when the soil is dry. It will take a few months, but it should root. Again, sorry in the delay in getting back to you.

Sincerely,

Greg
