Cactus/cacti inside

Question
I'd like to put a cactus (or two) in my office at work, to liven it up a bit. The problem is that it will get no real sunlight at all, only artificial light. Is it possible to grow cacti in these conditions? If so, which are the best (preferrably small, I don't have a huge desk)?

Answer
Dear Steven,

There are a number of cacti that may do well under those condition, and they are mostly small globular types. They typically grow under small shrubs or even covered by tall grass. Do not use Ferocactus or Echinocactus, as they eventually get very large and require full sun

There are also some succulents that look like cacti that might work well, Euphorbia's in general are the most similar in appearance and have the best variety.

If you can, install a "grow light", which simulates sunlight as much as possible. They are available in most fluorescent bulb sizes. Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

Sincerely,

Greg
