Question
how often should I water my cactus?  I'm not sure what type of cactus it is?  Does it like/need direct sunlight?
Thanks!
Jamie

Answer
Dear Jamie,

Generally speaking, cacti should only be watered when the soil is dry. That might take two weeks or maybe a month, just depends on the level of humidity. As far as direct sunlight goes, only if it is grown in the ground and only if you know which side of the plant is north.

What I mean is that cacti grow a thicker skin on the south side (to protect it). If the plant is rotated with the north side facing south, the cactus will sunburn. Also, cactus planted in the ground can take more heat and cold. However, if you plant was grown in a greenhouse which is likely, never put it in direct sunlight. Strong bright light is best. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
