Question
i have this plant that is at least 40 years old.  i want to transplant it but need to know if i use a catus soil. my mom had this plant, then my sister had it and now i have it. i remember this plant back to at least 40 years and would love to keep it strong and healthy. it will have to be kept indoors during the winter since i live on the east coast where to winters are cold and damp.

Answer
Dear Nerlie,

Crown of thorns is a Euphorbia that will be sensitive to damage, especially in a humid environment. Cactus soil is the best choice, from a drainage standpoint. Just be very careful not to break too many roots when transplanting.

Also, be aware that Euphorbia's emit a sap called latex, and it can burn or irritate your skin. Make sure to wear gloves and a long sleeve shirt. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
