Cactus/fallen saguaro

Question
I read your answers about fallen saguaro, but I have additional questions. My saguaro is a bit over 10' and seems to have cracked when it fell over. What is the chance of success as it is an expensive proposition to have it righted. Also, should it be held by guy wires after righting? How long can or should you wait before righting?

Answer
Peter,

It depends on why it fell over. If its roots had rotted, then it may not survive anyway. Also, once you get it upright, you'll need to check for damage on the side that hit the ground. Remember, a saguaro is like a really big water melon and it may be bruised. If you live in AZ, call a cactus relocating service (like Arizona Cactus Sales in Chandler). They can inspect the plant to let you know how extensive the damage is. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
