Cactus/My grafted cactus and the cutting of the host plant

Question
How close does this cutting have to be to the main plant? I have one that I have had for a month and is getting mushy and stunning a light green color. Should I cut just above the mushy part and then dry it out to try over,and how long do I let it dry before replanting? In addition do I spray the cactus with a mist bottle or let it dry out with the host. Any help you can give me would be most appreciated.

Thank You;
Ken Martin

Answer
Ken,

Unfortunately, I have never tried grafting one plant to another. However, the link below will give you anything you ever wanted to know about grafting. Good luck!
