Cactus/identifying my cactus

Question
a few years ago my little sis planted a cactus at school ive been looking after it but because i dont know how to care for them properly its been really slow progress at the moment is stands about 10 cm tall and in the last few weeks some tiny cacti have been growing out the side i knocked one of these off by accident and wondered if it would grow if i planted it?? could sum1 let me know what it is and if i can plant the little bits??

Dear Amy,

Actually, I think I got your pictures. I looks like some type of Trichocereus, but there are so many different types and hybrids that without seeing the flower it would be tough to tell. However, they are very easy to grow, just plant it in some dirt and don't water it very much (depending on your climate, that could be once a month or once a week. Just make sure to let the soil dry out between waterings. Hope this helps.
