ok my little cactus was doing fine all year and then the other day i looked at it and it was like leaning to the side , so i touched it and it was kind of soft where it was leaning.. what could be the cause of that...its in a nice big planter and right in front of a big picture window

Generally, what you are describing is rot. That can be caused by a number of factors, but usually it is from over watering. The best rule of thumb is to water only when the soil is dry, sometimes that can mean a month between waterings. Hope this helps.
