Question
i have 4 very large jade plants all are in same area they get the same care one of my plants the leaves turn brown/black on the tips and fall off there seems to be no insects or disease the branches are sturdy but i have noticed the front area of plant the leaves are turning light yellow is there any thing wrong or is this normal

Answer
Dear Cecilia,

It sounds to me like one of two things are happening here. One is that the affected plant has somehow been exposed to direct sunlight and has sunburned. Plants don't react the way we do and turn red and peel. Plants will often turn yellow, then turn white, then brown and black.

If that isn't a possibility, it it possible your dealing with some type of fungus or insect. Look very closely at the leaves or the stem around the leaves that are dying. If you see something that looks like a powder, you most likely have a fungus problem. If that is the case, you can purchase a fungicide at your local nursery.

If you don't find any evidence of foul play, it could be natural die back and be perfectly normal. If your plants are very large and old, that may be the case. If the plant in question is the largest, take a good look at the pot. If you see roots above the soil, it is time to repot in a larger pot. That could also cause some die back.

Anyway, I hope this helps. If you have any additional info, please message me back. Good Luck.

Sincerely,

Greg
