Cactus/planting a 4ft saguaro

Question
How far down should a 4ft saguaro be planted?  We purchase a 4ft and we only have 2 1/2 out of the ground.  Is that correct, or did they plant it too deep?
Thank you

Answer
Miriam,

With that short of a saguaro, you can probably get away with planting it about 12" in the ground. Most landscapers will plant them deeper so they won't fall over. Also, make sure you orient the plant north/south just like it was at the nursery, otherwise it can sunburn and damage the plant. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
