I picked up a fresh bud that fell from a saguaro cactus.  I would like to plant it in my yard.  As I am an easterner new to the desert, how do I do this.  Do you put it in water to develop roots?  Do I keep it moist in a paper towel?  Help!

Most likely what you found is a flower bud or a fruit. Neither of which can be rooted. However, saguaro seeds germinate readily, so if it is a fruit, wait until it ripens then break it open and remove the seeds. Let them dry out for a few weeks, then plant. If you keep the soil moist you should see sprouts in a few weeks. Once they germinate, you can back off on the watering to whenever the soil is dry. Hope this helps.
