Question
The top of my 20 ft high saguaro is leaning at 45 deg. angle and splitting on the opposite side. For safety,  I want it trimmed off.  Will it heal and if I replant it, how heavy might the 4 ft long by 10 wide piece be?

Answer
Bill,

I'm not sure about the weight other than to say imagine a watermelon that size with spines. A saguaro can be straightened if you'd rather do that. I am not sure where you are, but if your in the Phoenix area, give Arizona Cactus Sales (in Chandler) a call, they should be able to help you.

If you do take a cutting, let it "heal" for at least a month before replanting. Make sure you mark the south side and plant it so that the mark is facing south. Make sure that the soil is mixed with about 50% sand and do not water until summer. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
