Cactus/trimming a cactus?

Question
Dear Greg,

I have a cactus plant that has grown to about 2 feet high. However, it's very thin and tends to bend in the middle and fall over to the side. Is it possible to trim it or will this cause serious damage to the plant. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Dear George,

Some cacti are not meant to stand up. Yes you can trim it, just becareful of the spines and just in case it is a Euporbia (it will exude a white milky substance when cut) that can be poisonous, be very careful when cutting.

The cut part will heal and you can plant the cut part in the soil, but let it dry out for a couple of weeks first before replanting. Hope this helps!

Sincerely,

Greg
