Question
I just bought a well used 57, 365 w/automatic. The transmission dip stick says "Hydramatic, Type A".

What fluid type is that in today's nomenclature? I've only got first gear, the fluid is low, so hopefully adding fluid will resolve.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,      Dan

Answer
Hi Dan

You can use Dextron II or III. You can usually find the older fluids like Dextron II on eBay and on the net... This replaced Dextron I and that was the fluid used in your car. If you go to II or III you will have no probles as that are technically upgraded products. Just make sure to use Dextron type for - GM

Good luck with you Caddy! Ted
