Question
QUESTION: My 1999 deville's gas gauge seems wrong. When the gas tank is empty, it keeps moving between 15gal and full. When the gas tank is full, it shows full. I found some answers through the Internet, but most of all are not helpful. Could you please help me?

ANSWER: There is a float mechanism that measures the amount of gas in the tank by sending back different voltages to the gas gage on your dash and there is a fault with the meter in the fuel tank. You need to replace it.

QUESTION: Thank you for your response. Happy Thanksgiving! By the way, I got more questions.

1. Can I replace it by myself? If I can, where can I buy that unit?
2. How much will it cost?
3. If you have, could you give me some pictures that helps the replacement process?

Answer
You can purchase one at most any auto parts store. YES, I can provide directives and pictures and if necessary telephone help.

If you are mechanicaly inclined or know of someone who is, You will need a DIGITAL MULTIMETER, Simple electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
