Actually it is common for northstars to need a valve job at this mileage. through 1999 they had lifters that weren't roller tipped. This plus manufactures taking some of the additives out of the oil causes the lifters and cams to wear on the exhaust side. thats why they went to the roller tipped rockers.

But its really the valve guide wear that causes the valves to not seat right. How do I know, I am fixing one now. stretched timing chains worn timing gears worn lifters, cam lobes. 96,000

miles and no outward signs of abuse or neglect. All from an engine that was supposed to go 100,000 miles between tune ups.

Expertise

I can generally handle questions concerning all facets of vehicle repair, maintenance and customizing. I'm weakest in transmissions.

Experience

Spent 20 years as fleet manager of the largest all-Cadillac fleet in the country. During that time, I performed hands-on as well as managed repairs etc. in our large repair facility. I worked directly with Cadillac engineering on many projects as well as joined them at car shows as a technical consultant. After getting out of the fleet business in 2000, I opened my own repair shop. I now work in the family business which has nothing to do with cars but still remain active by answering technical questions on several Cadillac-based forums etc. on the internet.
