Subject: A/C Off

Question
I turn the A/C on and it turns itself off on my 98 Elderado.
Message comes on and says Coolant is low.
My A/C will not come on and I also get no heat.  I can smel. antifreeze, but my engine does not overheat. My Cheak Engine light is also on and I also get a message to Check Gas cap.

Answer
The reason the AC does not work is because it has a leak in the system and is low on freon which will require the use of an AC LEAK DETECTOR to find the leak and fix it.

Since the CHECK ENGINE light is ON, You must retrieve the codes from the computer via:

1. Turn ignition switch to the ON position. Do NOT start the engine.

2. If you have a digital speedometer, Push and hold the OFF and WARMER (^) buttons on your climate control panel for 3 seconds and release them.

3. Look at you fuel data panel and you will see LETTERS & NUMBERS (codes)appearing along with the word HISTORY or CURRENT with each code. The display will stop I believe at PCM?.

4. Let me know everything you see on the fuel data display.

4. Turn OFF ignition.
