Question #1: In addition to the possible rear main seal leak there is also another point at the rear of the engine block to the inside of the flex plate. There is an oil return tube installed on this era of GM V8 engines from the valley under the intake manifold to the bottom of the block that drains into the oil pan. The seals are simple o-rings.The problem with this repair is there is no wat to access this tube from under the intake. The trans axle must be separated from the engine block and the flex plate removed to gain access to the oil return tube. There are one or two small bolts that hold the tube to the back of the block.Remove them and push the tube upward then pull the tube out, replace the o-rings and re-install.
