Cadillac Repair/88 Deville

Question
My dsaughter just bought an '88 Deville and are having an overheat problem. We have changed the therostat, which seems to have helped a bit, but the fan never has gone on. Whats the best way to find out if the fan works or if its a relay or a sensor of some sorts. She gave me codes of E27 and F48 and she said some 888 came up and she wasn't sure if there was a point in there somewhere. Do any of these codes tell us if its the cooling fan?

Answer
E27 means that you have an OPEN THROTTLE SWITCH on the THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR and or someone increased the idle speed via the idle speed adjustment screw which is a NO-NO.

F48 means that the air conditioning system is very low on freon or someone converted the freon from R-12 to R-134a.

888 means that this is just the starting point of the diagnostics system.

Inop cooling fans could be the:

fans.

relays.

sensors.

module.

If you are mechanicaly inclined or know of someone who is, You will need simple electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information.
