Cadillac Repair - Cadillac Deville oil leak

Expert: autohelp - 10/19/2009

Question
Hello,
I have a 1997 Cadillac Deville Concours, 146,000 miles, and I recently sprang an oil leak.  Now I have an indicator light that is telling me the oil pressure is low, however, per the dipstick, there is sufficient oil in the car.  What might this be, and how much should I expect to pay to have it repaired?

Answer
Repair cost depends upon WHAT is leaking. IF you have oil up to the FULL MARK on the dipstick and you are still getting the low pressure light you MAY have an OIL PRESSURE SWITCH fault or a failing oil pump. You need to install an external oil pressure gage to see EXACTLY what your oil pressure is at.
