Question
I have a 1992 cadillac seville sts, with a 4.9 liter.  I have had many issues with it since I have traded for it.  I recently replaced the battery, starter, cap, rotor, coil, temp. sensor, radiator, radiator cap and thermostat.  It has a tendancy to die not long after being started. I can re-start it while in neutral and coasting...other times I need to stop and put it in park and it will start back up. When it dies, the check engine light comes on and tells me many things:  engine coolant hot, set timing mode, engine coolant hot, a/c compressor off and idle engine.  The engine is not actually hot because I have put my thermometer in the radiator just after it shuts down and it reads at 180 +/- degrees.  The car will tell me it is too hot even before I start it after sitting for a day or more.  While I drive the vehicle with the check engine light on, the car does not want to go into the last gear and runs at just under 3,000 rpm at 60 mph. The gauge wont register speed or mpg or miles on the odometer. After driving for about 15 minutes the check engine light will go out and I will get back my speedometer and other gauges.

Also the heater fan does not come on.  The rear one works fine.  It seems I can adjust the temp on the climate control and the car responds to with the appropriate temp coming out of the vents, but it is not being pushed out by the fan.

I have read many other questions on various sites and learned how to retrieve codes from the onboard computer and get these readings:

EO14 history
EO22 history
EO56 history
EO65 history
EO70 history
EO71 history

AO48 history
AO50 current

no sir
no ipc
ecm?

I have tried to reset all the codes to see which ones will return, but not sure if I have done this with any success.

Car seems to run strong with check engine light off, runs a little rough while light is on...I haven't been too worried about ruining the motor only because I routinely check fluid levels and coolant temp.

Please, please help...I am thinking of banging my head against the next block wall I see.  LOL.

Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Jeremy

Please e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com in order to obtain the information necessary to fix your vehicle.

If you are mechanicaly inclined or know of someone who is, You will need a DIGITAL VOLT/OHM METER, Simple electrical schematics, Test procedures and picture locations of the components within the system that is causing you problems of which can't be done on this website which only allows one picture. I do not have a website so you will have to e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com
