Cadillac Repair/68 cadillac starter problems

Question
I fried my starter solenoid somehow and now have replaced it, but I dont
remember which black wire went on which side. When I hook the thicker wire
on the side closer to the engine nothing happens other than the dash lights
up. When I hook up the thinner black wire closer to the engine the starter
engages but will not disengage. Someone told me that I needed a new
ignition switch, I plugged in a new switch and the same problem happened. Is
there another part of the switch that I havent found? The part I replaced was
the black plug in part that connects to the key tumbler. I am getting really
frustrated because I need to be able to move this car.

Answer
Is the starter solenoid mounted ON the starter ?.

How many threaded posts are ON the solenoid ?.

Can you e-mail me a picture of the solenoid and the wiring harness showing the ends of the wires that have you confused ?.
