Expert: autohelp - 6/2/2009

Question
This is a 1999 Cadillac Deville.  The key turns but is not hooked to the rod so the car won't start. When you manually push the rod forward, nothing happens.  I'd like to fix this myself and have been a diesel mechanic for years fixing my owns cars, trucks, etc...  This is frustrating me and I don't want to have to pay someone else to do this.  I appreciate your help.  Thank you.

QUESTION: are you getting a message in the message center saying that your ignition system is disabled and to wait 3 minutes before trying to start the vehicle or something to this effect ?
