Question
Dear Mr. Expert,
A couple of hours ago I had my AC system recharged. It was out of coolent (for AC unit about 2 years but because where I lived AC was never necessary. So I had the system recharged and no leaks were found but the AC readout will not change from the off possition. The computer dash consule reads "low freeon" and compressor, something like not working. Please do you have any suggestions, Thank you Very Much for your thoughts. My car is a 1996 Cadillac Savile with 93,000 miles on her. Sincerely, Boyd Nelson

Answer
When the system is totally out of freon due to a leak it is imperative that you fix or replace the faulty component and:

Replace the orifice tube.
Replace the receiver drier.
Evacuate the system of all air using a vacuum pump.
Recharge the system.

Once this is done charging the system with freon can be performed by jumpering the LOW PRESSURE SWITCH.
