Question
I have a 2001 deville which I recently replaced the a/c compressor.I disconected the battery cable at the fuse box underneath the hood and when I reconected the cable the fuel guage now does not work. I replaced the fuel guage sending unit in the tank about a 1 1/2 years ago. Also the car will just stop running while driving but will start right back up.This issue has been going on for about a year.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jeff

Answer
IS or HAS the CHECK ENGINE light ever illuminated on the dash while driving the vehicle ?.

If NOT, I would install an external fuel pressure gage on the fuel line and let the car idle and watch the fuel pressure to see if it starts to drop off.

Another suggestion which I use often is to install the fuel pressure gage and tape it to the ouside of the windshield so you can watch the fuel pressure as you drive down the highway to see if it starts to drop off.

If you would like you can obtain an electrical schematic showing you how to test the fuel gage on the dash. All you need to do is e-mail: onlineautohelp@msn.com
