1973 eldo convt. 41827 orig. miles replaced compressor,exspansion
valve p.o.a. valve dryer charged syst. 3lbs. r-12 unsure of
factory spec. syst. was blowing ice . found thermal limit
smoking .  switch is after market . no markings on switch .could it be inserted backwards . ive been unsuccesful in locating
a wiring diagram for this system .  

Answer
After you installed the new compressor and before you charged it with freon did you remove the oil filler plug hole on the side of the new compressor and let all the excess oil out of the side plug and inserted asmall plastic coffee stirrer straw into the hole until it touchrd the bottom of the compressor and then measured how much oil was on the straw ?. It should only be 1 5/8 - 2 3/8 inches of oil, BEFORE you charged the system ?.

Question: did you evacuate all the air from the system after you put all the new parts on using a vacuum pump ?.

Maximum freon charge is 3 1/3 pounds
