Question
Hello Rob,
Yesterday I drove over a speed cushion bump (slowly) and my exhaust slightly scraped the bump. There were four people in car at time.I have been over this speed bump many times before no problem. My exhaust was custom made two years ago and is maybe slightly lower than standard but has never been a problem before and still looks fine now.
This morning Driver Info Centre is coming up with "Service CCR System"( I think this message has come up before )
The rear of the car seems to be sitting about 1cm lower than the front ( maybe that is normal)??
Can you please advise what is involved in Service CCR System-is it a repair or replacement? If I needed new shocks can I replace them with basic ones as I assume the computer command ride system is pretty expensive??
I am from the Uk so mechanics probably have little knowledge of this system??
I've just been over the same speed bump again this morning with just me in car and fine,no scrapes.
Many thanks for any advice you can give me.
Andy

Answer
Hello,

Your CCR is not working and could be from a number of different reasons. Being in the UK, I don't know what your parts availability is and once diagnosed, could cost you a lot of money to repair.

Cadillacs and Lincolns are notorious for air ride leveling issues. We have better options to go after market to go around these issues.

Check to see if a local parts house has an after market air ride kit. Monroe among others in the US make the complete system including compressor for a fraction of the cost of factory.

Otherwise, you cannot ride over these speed bumps (that one of these days I am going to sue someone for, because of damage to the 10 herniated discs in my spine I have had previously due to getting rear ended at high speed from a school bus. These darn things cause severe pain just trying to go over them at the slowest of speeds)with the additional weight of people until you do something with the ride leveling or you will bottom out.

You could have a computer problem, sensor problems, compressor not working, air leaks.

Check an auto parts store and see if Monroe, Moog or other US brand names offer an after market alternative and I really want to know.

This info will help me when answering other UK questions.

Thanks.

Alarm system questions cannot be answered on this forum. These systems are not what I can answer. Without being physically at the vehicle and not knowing what kind of electrical service has been done on the vehicle, there is no possible way to give an accurate answer over the internet. My expertise is in Ignition/key based anti-theft systems. These issues include GM VATS (resistor chip in key blade) PASSLOCK (MRD)-ignition lock rotation based, no special ignition key and the PKIII Transponder (computer chip in key) systems. These systems are not alarm based and are integral with the starting of the engine. This is why I cannot diagnose alarm problems without physically looking at the vehicle: Alarm systems are a completely different annimal than ignition key/lock based anti-theft system. Many alarm questions come from vehicles 10 years old, and since older, many hands that had been involved over the years.I am an expert in all GM factory (ignition/key based)systems. Alarm system questions pose to many situations beyond my knowledge as to what has been done to the vehicle over the years. Some guy may have actually wired the stereo into the alarm system. Who knows? Over my past 30 years in vehicle wiring repair, I have seen unbelievable wiring disaters done by guys that consider themselves "mechanics." I have seen stereos and alarms intalled using surgical tape. I have seen modules burn up, un-fused circuits, wiring jambed between the doors and even lamp cord used for a starter kill. To answer alarm questions over the internet without examining the vehicle is like asking; What does it take to remove a dent?
