Question
Check engine light came on while driving on I-95 ( Port Saint Lucie to West Palm,Fl). Just had the catalytic converter replaced complete to tail pipes. Thank God that was under warranty. Warranty expired 1k ago.(83000 miles) Thinking the new check engine soon light might be related to that repair,(maybe exhaust sensor), I stopped in at the same Cadillac dealer. The check in booth person started going through my computer buttons on the dash. Said its the torque converter code. All day job, $2500 labor ($85 per Hr.)Cost about $3500. What a disappointment!
Remaining problems from catalytic repair- My ABS,traction and brake light was also lite.
The mech. said it is probably the EBTCM module. He said error codes C1214 and C1248. Cheapest price on line for EBTCM
is $560-$680 and two are offered. What do these codes mean? Mech. also said 1 out of three he replaces is bad. Meaning the new replacement part is bad. That does not sound good !!! Mech said ok to drive, just no abs or traction.
More problems! He also showed me my broken center engine motor mount. He said eventually it will have to be replaced. The bolt has not punched through the neoprene yet. Have not using passing gear or hard on the gas peddle. The engine will titer when revved at idel. What is your thoughts, did I damage the torque converter due to not replacing the motor mount? Could it be a solenoid problem. Hate to do it, but I think I'll let the Cadillac people make the diagnosis check for there minimal cost. Do you agree. Looking at about $5000 if all is repaired, car is worth 6 to 11 thousand. Put $500 of tires on 3 days past!!

Answer
I have been diagnosing and fixing Cadillacs for over 40 years now and I have never owned one. Yes, I can afford to buy one , But I do not have the time or money to keep repairing the ever ongoing repairs that are required when you own a Cadillac.

Yes, Your transmission problem is most likely the torque converter solenoid.  As for the other items, Diagnostics would need to be performed.
