QUESTION: I recently purchased a 1988 Cadillac Deville 4.5 liter from a private owner. A/C has been retrofitted to R134a. It will not blow cold air. I have added a charge to the system, but a/c compressor will not cycle. Fuse is not blown. How do I access the trouble codes through elec. climate control display in order to pin-point problem? Is there a website I can go to with the code(s) that will give me the symptom it matches to? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

ANSWER: To access the codes:

1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Do NOT start the engine.

2. On the climate control panel, Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons for 3 seconds and release them.

3. On the fuel data display screen you will see a combination of LETTERS & NUMBERS appear followed by the word HISTORY or CURRENT for each codes that appears.

4. Writ these down and tell me which codes are History and which codes are Current.

5. Push and release the AUTO button and turn OFF the key.

QUESTION: What is the sequence you use to clear the "f48" error code so that the a/c compressor will begin to cycle? I have recharged the system. THANK YOU!

1. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Do NOT start the engine.

2. On the climate control panel, Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons for 3 seconds and release them.

3. On the fuel data display screen you will see a combination of LETTERS & NUMBERS appear followed by the word HISTORY or CURRENT for each codes that appears.

4. At the end of the codes you will see .7.0

5. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and LO buttons until F.0.0 appears and release the buttons.

6. Push and release the AUTO button and turn OFF the key.
