Question
Hi, I have a trans fluid leak coming fom the shifter shaft seal on my 73 front wheel drive Eldorado with a THM425 trans. I have the new seal and the removal/installation tool. I was wondering if you can tell me how to remove the shaft. It looks like I need to remove the trans pan, but what else needs to come out? Valve body? How it held in? Cotter pin? Special clip of some sort?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Answer
Remove the trans pan and you will see that there is a nut that you have to remove from the end of the shaft. Also you may see a nail inserted in the trans pan gasket area that holds the shaft in place. Remove the nail to remove the shaft also.Very simple repair.
