QUESTION: 1997 Cadillac Deville, the make is GM, engine is northstar v8 and the gearshift is on the column want to know why the key won't turn any help will be greatly appreiated

Answer
This may be a stupid question, But are you putting your foot on the brake pedal BEFORE turning the ignition key ?.

If you are applying the brake pedal the only possibilities are:

The interlock system for the key is not working or there is a problem with the key, Lock cylinder or the ignition electrical switch on the steering column under the dash.

IS or HAS the CHECK ENGINE light on the dash ever illuminated prior to this fault or has there been any messages in the message center ?.

You would need several pictures which you can obtain by e-mailing your question to: onlineautohelp@msn.com
