Question
These fiber optics were the worse thing manufactured.  Is there ANY light that an replace them?  I need something that will replace them for my restoration.  It will not be exact, but I do need some opra lights.  Thank-you

Answer
Hello,

Yes, they certainly suck!

What I thought would be cool is look around at stores like Northern Hydraulics or tractor supply.

What I think would be really cool is white or clear L.E.D.. No maintenance, no boards mounted being the rear seat and quarter trim. Personally, I would think clear, blue, white or amber could bring it up to date.

You can find L.E.D.s close in size with a chrome bezel or guys like me like to modify and might try to remove the lens, use the factory bezel, center the L.E. D. and mount it.
Its just a better set up than the factory stuff.

I am going to light up my 1999 Suburban. Putting the L.E.D. clearance lights on the roof. Using L.E.D. amber on the mirrors, kind of like F 250s or the new F-150s.

Then going to light up my chrome front winch bumper.

You could look on the internet for L.E.D.s with bezels and you will find a size close.

Let me know what you find. If I remember right and I have had about 4 of these Eldos and the operas never worked on one. Get creative and have fun. If I remember right they are skinny and high.

These are a very nice car. I miss my black 88 Allante with 60K. Got rid of it with my 83' Eldo in 2009 when I moved from Wisconsin to Texas.

It was very common for that Saginaw tilt column to come loose from hanging on them to get in and out. Just in case you know anyone with a loose one. I rebuild the tilts and tilt & Telles.
I have probably done more steering columns than anyone. Over 10,000 from theft or from being loose.

Enjoy!!!!!

Alarm system questions cannot be answered on this forum. These systems are not what I can answer. Without being physically at the vehicle and not knowing what kind of electrical service has been done on the vehicle, there is no possible way to give an accurate answer over the internet. My expertise is in Ignition/key based anti-theft systems. These issues include GM VATS (resistor chip in key blade) PASSLOCK (MRD)-ignition lock rotation based, no special ignition key and the PKIII Transponder (computer chip in key) systems. These systems are not alarm based and are integral with the starting of the engine. This is why I cannot diagnose alarm problems without physically looking at the vehicle: Alarm systems are a completely different annimal than ignition key/lock based anti-theft system. Many alarm questions come from vehicles 10 years old, and since older, many hands that had been involved over the years.I am an expert in all GM factory (ignition/key based)systems. Alarm system questions pose to many situations beyond my knowledge as to what has been done to the vehicle over the years. Some guy may have actually wired the stereo into the alarm system. Who knows? Over my past 30 years in vehicle wiring repair, I have seen unbelievable wiring disaters done by guys that consider themselves "mechanics." I have seen stereos and alarms intalled using surgical tape. I have seen modules burn up, un-fused circuits, wiring jambed between the doors and even lamp cord used for a starter kill. To answer alarm questions over the internet without examining the vehicle is like asking; What does it take to remove a dent?
