Question
QUESTION: 1993 CADILLAC SEDAN DEVILLE,,,ALL AT ONCE THE ELECTRONIC SPEEDOMETER,FUEL GAUGE AND HEATER STOPPED WORKING..

         THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP,,,PAUL

ANSWER: Hello,

Pull your owners manual out of the glove box and see which fuse box has the gauge fuse. Hopefully, it blew on a fluke and not the sign of a more serious problem.

Answer
Hello Paul,

Lovely. Of course it can't be simple. Is there any event that may have caused this? Was the car recently serviced? My concern is if all this is not working is I wonder if the alternator is charging as well.
I can try to guess, but don't want you to be chasing ghosts. You could go under the driver's dash and go to the bulkhead connector, remove the 7/16 (11 mm) head bolt and pull the connector off with the mass of wires. Check for green corrosion. If you see corrosion, you can get some brake cleaner and use it sparingly with a very small wire brush or even a piece of wire until all the green is gone. Spray connector or if you have a tube of die electric grease for a good connection and reinstall. We commonly did this with flood cars and worked great.

Otherwise, if you want to try to fix it yourself you need an electrical service manual for this car you can probably find on Craigs list or Ebay.

Unfortunately for your problem there is no canned answer. This problem is not common and that is why I have you checking the main electrical connection here.

You can try www.alldata.com and check the list if they go back that far. If so, it is the factory service manual you can download for a year for $30.

Let me know what you find.

Good Luck!

Alarm system questions cannot be answered on this forum. These systems are not what I can answer. Without being physically at the vehicle and not knowing what kind of electrical service has been done on the vehicle, there is no possible way to give an accurate answer over the internet. My expertise is in Ignition/key based anti-theft systems. These issues include GM VATS (resistor chip in key blade) PASSLOCK (MRD)-ignition lock rotation based, no special ignition key and the PKIII Transponder (computer chip in key) systems. These systems are not alarm based and are integral with the starting of the engine. This is why I cannot diagnose alarm problems without physically looking at the vehicle: Alarm systems are a completely different annimal than ignition key/lock based anti-theft system. Many alarm questions come from vehicles 10 years old, and since older, many hands that had been involved over the years.I am an expert in all GM factory (ignition/key based)systems. Alarm system questions pose to many situations beyond my knowledge as to what has been done to the vehicle over the years. Some guy may have actually wired the stereo into the alarm system. Who knows? Over my past 30 years in vehicle wiring repair, I have seen unbelievable wiring disaters done by guys that consider themselves "mechanics." I have seen stereos and alarms intalled using surgical tape. I have seen modules burn up, un-fused circuits, wiring jambed between the doors and even lamp cord used for a starter kill. To answer alarm questions over the internet without examining the vehicle is like asking; What does it take to remove a dent?
