If you take the plastic cover at the top of the firewall off you will have more room (take windshield wipers off first), but still not alot.

Catera heater control valve IS a problem child. I replaced mine but relocated it to the left side of the engine, next to the coolant recovery tank. Not brain surgery, just a few extra clamps, 1/2 copper piping and a new control valve...

First drain the coolant from the lower radiator spigot. Save the coolant or buy new to refill.

You need a pair Torx sockets to remove the intake plenum . 4 Torx head bolts under the black plastic dust plugs(#12 Torx.) and two Torx bolts that hold corner brackets ( #10 Torx.)

Release front throttle body intake clamps and pull off intake trunking. Swing the manifold over to the passengers a/c area being careful to remove the electrical connection on the drivers side and the brake boost vac' hose nut (19mm)
Check for any I missed.

Remove the vac hose from heater valve and release clamps from valve ( Three hose clamp.)

Each intake runner has a 'O' ring to seal it to the plenum buy new or reuse if they project at least 1/32 higher than the 'O' ringed machined faces.

Reverse proceedure for assembly.
