Cadillac Repair - steering wheel

Expert: Bill Cherniwchan - 2/16/2004

Question
I have a '97 Seville STS. The toggle switches for radio volume on right side and temp. and fan on the left are on the steering wheel.  Original owner has radio volume on the right side and phone on left. I would like to put the volume/temp. fan switches back in. How do I get the steering apart to do this?(I see that the wiring will be easy, just a electrical connection).

Answer
Hi Jack, It would be best to get a shop manual for this vehicle as the procedures to disable the air bag are kind of involved and if you don't follow them properly then the airbag in the steering wheel could inflate causing injury. Once the sir has been disabled then a T40 torx bit will be needed to remove the airbag module from the steering wheel. Also disable the horn because when you remove the 4 screws from the backside of the steering wheel the horn will sound. Once that is done then the 2 switches are able to be replaced. Bill
