how do i find Amax of f on [-1,2]

Answer
I assume the question is,
'How do I find a max of f(x) for x on [-1,2].'

The way to find a max is to set the derivative equal to 0 and solve for x.  If x is in [-1,2], get the f(x) values.  

Also, calculate f(-1) and f(2).

The maximum is the greatest value obtained.

On the points in the middle, evaluate the second derivative at these points.  A negative result implies they are a local maximum.
