Question
Let f be the function given by f(x) = 2ln(x^2 + 3)- x with domain -3 < x < 5
         =   =

A.)  Find the x-coordinate of each relative maximum point and each relative minimum point of f.  Justify your answer.
B.) Find the x-coordinate of each inflection point of f.
C.) Find the absolute maximum value of f(x)

Thank you.

Answer
Take the first derivative, set equal to 0.  This will tell you points that are max / min for the function.  Note that the derivative of the first part of the function involves a chain rule.

Take the second derivative, set equal to 0.  This will tell you any inflection points.  Also, you can put the x points where the first derivative is 0 into the second derivative to see if they are maximum or minimum - positve => minimum, negatvie => maximum.

Put the endpoints in for the x range given.  This will give you two other values where the maximum could occur.

Awards and Honors: I have passed Actuarial tests 100, 110, and 135.

Publications
Maybe not a publication, but I have respond to well oveer 7,500 questions on the PC. Well over 2,000 of them have been in calculus.

Education/Credentials
I aquired well over 40 hours of upper division courses. This was well over the number that were required. I graduated with honors in both my BS and MS degree from Oregon State University. I was allowed to jump into a few junior level courses my sophomore year.
