Question
what is the perpendicular to y=-3x-6 through the point is (3,6)

Answer
Hi Richard,
The line y = -3x - 6 has a slope of m = -3
The line perpendicular to this line would have a slope of -1/m
= -1/-3 = 1/3
This line passes through (3,6) and so its equation is
(y - 6)/(x - 3) = 1/3
y - 6 = 1/3(x-3)
     = x/3 - 1
y = x/3 + 5
