Question
the number of bus riders from the suburbs to downtown per day is represented by 1200(1.5-x) where x is the fare in dollars. what fare will maximize the total revenue?

Answer
It is known that the total fare is pN where p is the price for
each one and N is the total passenger.

It is known that the fare is p = x.
It is known that the total passengers N = 1200(1.5-x).

Given these two variables, we know that the total price is
pN = x(1200)(1.5-x) = 1800x - 1200x².

To solve this, let f(x) be the total price (1800x - 1200x²),
take the derivative of the function with respect to x,
set the derivatve equal to zero, and solve for x.

As can be seen, the second derivative is negative,
which means that this value is a maximum.
