Question
Hi my name's Danielle and I'm having trouble with linear equations. If you could help me that would be great!

7(y+2)+8(y+3)+21= -76

please walk me throught the steps! thank you so much!!!!

Answer
Each set of parenthesis needs to have the factor multiplied on
each of the elements inside.

Multiply the 7 by the y and the 2.
Multiply the 8 by the y and the 3.

The result is 7y + 14 +8y + 24 + 21 = -76.

Group the y terms together and group the constants together.
There is a 7y and an 8y, so that make 15y.
There is a 14, 24, and 21.  That makes 69.

The equation si then 15y + 69 = -76.

Subtract 69 from both sides
(making the right an even bigger negative).

Divide both sides by 15.

That's the answer.  You go it?
