Question
Tail wind, a small piper craft can fly 600 miles in 3 hours. Against same wind, it can fly same distance in 4 hours. Find average wind speed and average airspeed of the craft

Answer
Let's set u=Velocity of the craft & v=Velocity of the wind.
When the craft is flying constant in the direction of the wind,
the total velocity will be u+v.
When the craft is flying against the direction of the wind,
the total velocity will be u-v.
Thus, we get 2 equations with 2 variables :
1. 600/(u+v)=4
2. 600/(u-v)=3

1. (u+v)/600=(1/4)
2. (u-v)/600=(1/3)

1. (u+v)=600/4=150
2. (u-v)=600/3=200

Let's sum eq1 & eq2 , we get :
2u=350 -> u=175. Hence v=25 .
