Question
A lighthouse is located on a small island 5 km away from the nearest point P on
a straight shoreline. Its light makes 2 revolutions per minute. How fast is the
beam of light moving along the shoreline when it is 1.8 kilometers from P?

Answer
This sound like a right triangle.
The distance out to the light house is 5 km.
The distance on the shore is 1.8 km.
What we are looking for is the length of the hypotenuse.
That is, a = 5 and b = 1.8 with c = length of the hypotenuse.
It is known that c = sqrt(a^2 + b^2).
