Question
I'm working on a calculus final that must be finished tonight, can you help me?!?!


Find the area of the largest rectangle whose base lies along the x-axis and whose top corners lie on the parabola y = 1 − x^2.

Answer
Well, I only view my computer questions in the morning, so this might be a little late.
The area A(x) = x(1-x²).

To maximize it, take the derivative of A(x) = x - x³.  That is, A'(x) = 1 - 3x².
To find the answer, set this to 0 and solve for x, then put x into A(x).
