Question
Hi im a filipino student taking up Engineering and ive come across this math problem that has really got me stumped

The pyramidal tank has a square base of 11.6ft on a side and an altitude of 14.8ft. How many gallons of warter are in it when the depth of the water is 5,725ft?

thanks

Answer

drawing
Let's set d to be the height of level of water from the base . We
know that d=5.725 ft . From this level to the vertex , the hieght
will be h=14.8-5.725=9.075 ft .
Let's find a relation between h (or d) and b ("the length of base
at that certain level") see the drawing attached .
From geometry we know that : h/14.8 = b/11.6 Thus b=7.112 ft .

# The volume of the air is        : (1/3)*b²*h=153.042
# The volume of the whole tank is : (1/3)*11.6²*14.8=663.829
# The volume of the water is      :  663.829-153.042=510.786
