Question
Let f(x) = x+1 and g(x) = -(1/5)x +3

How can we find the size of angles formed by these two lines

Answer

drawing
Hello Don,
We know that :
y1(x)=x+1
y2(x)=3-(x/5)
I attached a drawing to illustrate the problem .
From the drawing we can easily see that Tang(α1)=y1' AND
Tang#α2#=y2' . Thus,
Tang#α1###x+1#'#1 AND Tang#α2###3-[x/5]#'#-1/5 . So,
α1#Arctang#1##45°
AND
α2#Arctang#-1/5##-11.31° . We take the the positive value 11.31°.
In the given triangle we see that : α1+α2#θ . Hence,
θ #which is the angle between the two lines# # 56.31° .
